If “good vibes” could be materialized, the result would be Jonah Hill’s wardrobe. You won’t find the actor-turned-director on many red carpets these days, and yet, he’s delivered consistent menswear inspiration for years.

Case in point: Hill made headlines while strolling over to the Brentwood, Los Angeles Country Mart on March 9th. His outfit? A simple white tee, a pair of dark-wash jeans with bone motifs by Japanese brand Kapital, and last but not least, a pair of chestnut Uggs. Inexplicably, it’s perfect. Such is the power of Jonah Hill’s easygoing style prowess.

With a decidedly low public profile, his oft-discussed street-style photos have garnered their own cult following. Not only are they rich with jovial sincerity (recall the great iced coffee calamity of 2019), but they exhibit someone who is truly having fun with fashion.

Over 50,000 people follow the Instagram account @jonahfits, which acts as a shrine to these cheerful ensembles. Whether he’s wearing playful patchwork jeans, cozy patterned cardigans or luxe satin sets, a smiling, bearded Hill always looks refreshed, post-facial-level glowy and effortlessly comfortable in his clothes. This is a man who has mastered the art of personal style. And when it comes to menswear’s notorious lack of body inclusivity, his approach to fashion is worth celebrating.

Early in his career, the 39-year-old actor was typecast as a punchline because of his weight. After rising to fame for his role in 2007’s Superbad, the actor was relegated to the one-dimensional “Funny Fat Guy” trope, writes Elamin Abdelmahmoud in Buzzfeed. “For decades, being the Funny Fat Guy has meant being forced to accept people’s comments about your body and acting like you, too, are in on the jokes,” he continues.

And when it comes to clothing, this reductive title holds clear-cut restrictions. It means you’re expected to dress — and not dress — in a certain way: to avoid standing out, avoid taking risks, and avoid using your wardrobe as a tool for experimentation. “I always had an interest in personal style and fashion, but I was always a bigger guy,” Hill told GQ in 2020. “It’s really hard when you’re overweight to dress a certain way, because clothes aren’t made for people who are overweight to have style.” As Abdelmahmoud notes, Hill’s body size has been a constant point of public discussion, even after losing weight.

In February 2021, Hill confronted the commentary on his body when shirtless photos of him were released online. On Instagram, he wrote, “I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends. Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers.”

Photography via Getty Images

This treatment is layered with the fact that men are often belittled for expressing vulnerability, especially regarding body image. Nevertheless, Hill has been refining his personal style for years. It’s hard not to see this as a sartorial reclamation of his self-image, thanks to the delightful air of irreverence weaved into his wares. He’ll sport a slouchy suit with a zipper instead of a tie. He switches between bleach blonde and pink hair. He keeps a seemingly limitless rotation of bucket hats for any occasion, he forays into dweeb dressing, and he is eternally fond of tie-dye. Most importantly, he’s made fashion fun for himself.

His latest project, 2023’s You People, is the perfect example. The film, which he co-wrote and stars in, is brimming with quintessentially Jonah Hill streetwear. But off-screen, the star opted out of red-carpet appearances in an effort to protect his mental health. On social media, he wrote, “I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public-facing events.”

So, for now, the actor remains a menswear street-style icon. He’s wholeheartedly enjoying fashion. He’s just doing it on his own terms. Jonah Hill is protecting his peace, and dressing the part.

Just ahead of Earth month, Toronto-based beauty brand, Everist, has partnered with software platform Bluebird Climate. Since Everist is focused on the creation of sustainable hair and body concentrates, this partnership seeks to track how these concentrates compare to standard water-filled haircare products. As it turns out, the Everist shampoo concentrate produces up to 77% less carbon emissions and 62% less waste than your average plastic-packaged shampoo. This is due to the product’s concentrated size, fully recyclable aluminum packaging, and plant-based formulation. What’s more, the brand now makes their concentrate tubes with 100%. post-consumer recycled (or post-industrial recycled) aluminum and has a new plastic-free aluminum tin format for its scoopable products. To learn more about this exciting partnership, head to the Everist site starting on April 1st.

If there’s one thing we can say about Florence Pugh, it’s that she’s fearless. Whether she’s playing the role of a polished 1950s housewife in the psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling or the flower-crown-wearing lead in Midsommar, Pugh is unafraid to take on any character. And both on- and off-screen, she’s unafraid of trying new things with her hair.

In the trailer for her latest heartfelt film A Good Person, we see Pugh’s character, Allison, recklessly chopping away at her hair — which would typically be a wig, but the actress revealed in an interview with USA Today that it was actually her own hair being trimmed. “Everyone was really anxious that it was the only take we’d have, but I found it really liberating,” she shared.

This liberating haircut launched the stunning series of chic pixie cut and bob styles she’s worn since.

At the 95th Academy Awards earlier this month, Pugh’s hair — styled by her hairstylist of years, Peter Lux — was swept back into a sculptural ponytail that flowed up and forward to create micro-bangs using the ends of Pugh’s own hair, and then completed with a coquette-style black bow. It was everything we love about a classic Pugh ‘do: unexpected, intricate and innovative.

Even when Pugh isn’t donning an updo, Lux still styles and shapes every strand with purpose and intention. Rest assured this duo will always deliver hairstyles with an element of surprise. Below, browse our favourite recent Florence Pugh hair moments.

At the 2022 British Fashion Awards back in December, Pugh wore her blonde bob slicked back to perfection, with a subtle side part and flipped out ends. With a touch of the wet-look going on, Pugh’s vibe that evening was cool and effortless.

Pugh’s 2023 Emmy Awards hairstyle wasn’t merely a hairstyle — it was a masterpiece. In the front, we see micro bangs and a glimpse of what’s in the back: an abstract work involving twisting, tucking, and fanning, resulting in a gravity-defying ‘do.

At this month’s Valentino Fall 2023 show in Paris, Pugh’s modern mohawk stole the show. “Like…mohawk, pixie, swirly thingy, punk, greasy,” says Pugh of the look on Instagram.

From complex creations to effortless updos, there’s nothing that Pugh can’t pull off. See the loose swept-up look she wore for the British Academy of Film and Television screening of A Good Person in early March. Perfectly undone yet still glamorous.

While it’s clear that Pugh is partial to an updo, she can also serve with her hair down. Take this ‘do for instance, featuring a middle part and loose waves for a day of press.

For another screening of A Good Person, Pugh was once again on the coquette beauty train — this time with an OTT sparkling bow holding her side part in place. As for the rest of the style, Lux created subtle Hollywood waves and opted for a Pugh signature: a minor flip on the ends of her blonde bob.

As we continue to keep an eye on Pugh and her sculptural hairdos, we wonder what style she’ll dare to wear next.

Our sense of smell is closely and intimately linked with memory, more than any of our other senses. So much so, that upon a single whiff, we can instantly be transported to a specific person, place, or moment in time (for better or for worse). This is actually due to the anatomy of our brain. Smells are processed by the brain’s olfactory bulb, the structure that sends information to the other areas of the body. And the olfactory bulb is directly connected to the amygdala and hippocampus, the parts of our brain that process memory and emotion.

So if you’re someone who wears a signature scent — that is, a fragrance you spritz on each day, without fail — you can be assured that when people who spend time around you get a whiff of that scent elsewhere, they’ll be reminded of you. (Really — their brains are wired for it.) Alternatively, if you prefer to rotate scents, you’re setting yourself up for a lifetime of scent associations — tied to vacations, relationships, new jobs, heartbreaks, and everything in between. No matter which way of wearing scent you subscribe to, it’s easy to see why fragrance is one of the most emotional and evocative ways that we use beauty products to connect with the world and the people around us.

Below, we spoke to six perfume pros — from world-renowned perfumers, to TikTok creators whose scent wardrobes are nothing short of impressive, to podcast hosts who explore the stories behind the fragrances we love — about how and why they wear scents the way that they do, whether that’s a signature scent or rotating fragrances.

Fabrice Pellegrin, Principal Perfumer and Director of Natural Product Innovation at Firmenich

“I don’t have a signature perfume, but I find it moving when you recognize a person by their perfume and they recognize themselves entirely in it,” says Fabrice Pellegrin. “That’s the greatest compliment for a perfumer.” A world-renowned perfumer, 2017 Perfumer of the Year recipient, and most recently, the nose behind Diptyque’s latest scent, L’Eau Papier (a subtle blend of white musk, mimosa, and blonde woods), Pellegrin usually wears the creations he’s working on at the moment, to see how they evolve on his skin. “When I have the opportunity to wear perfume outside of work, I take care to select my perfume according to my mood, the place I’m going and the people I’m going to meet.” Although Pellegrin rotates his fragrances, he sticks to signature notes to give his scent wardrobe an element of cohesion. “I particularly like patchouli, amber and woody accords.”

These days, his rotating selection of fragrances include: “Diptyque L’Eau Papier, which I’ve worn a lot in the last few months during its development and launch. I particularly like its soothing quality and I continue to wear it in intimate settings. I also regularly wear L’Eau Duelle; it embodies my vision of “French chic.” It’s a very good perfume for an elegant evening. For a business meeting, I prefer Eau Rihla; it gives you a feeling of power when you wear it.”

Tynan Sinks, co-host of Smell Ya Later podcast

“I used to have two signature scents that I switched throughout the year; one for spring and summer, and one for fall and winter,” says Tynan Sinks, a beauty columnist, copywriter and consultant, and co-host of one of our favourite scent-focused podcasts, Smell Ya Later. “As my love for fragrance grew, so did my hunger to experience as many types of scents as I could, so I challenged myself to widen the scope. These days, with my work in beauty and the podcast, it’s not so much of a fragrance wardrobe as it is a fragrance archive. I find that allowing myself the freedom to switch it up lets me experience the world differently each day.”

As for the scents in his regular rotation, Sinks reaches for: “1996, the (sadly discontinued) softly sweet, suede-y scent by Byredo, and Intoxicated by Kilian, a sensual coffee fragrance that I can’t get enough of. Last year I couldn’t stop wearing Milk Personal from Commodity, a gorgeous, lightweight, lactonic marshmallow wood. And finally, Cloud by Ariana Grande, the absolutely one-of-a-kind blend of coconut cream, pear, marshmallow, electricity-charged air, and heavy, humid clouds before rain.”

Sable Yong, co-host of Smell Ya Later podcast

“I love having a scent wardrobe. I think the idea of a signature scent is very romantic and I aspire to be that consistent of a person, but I’m simply not her,” says NYC-based Sable Yong, co-host of Smell Ya Later podcast. “I prefer wearing scents according to my moods, which change daily. I don’t believe in scents being categorized as for men or women, for day or night, or for work or play — I’m quite agnostic in that sense — but I love being able to complete my expression for any given day with an appropriate scent. I do, however, like to choose a particular scent for vacation or travel, so whenever I smell it again, it reminds me of that trip.

Some scents I’ve been reaching for lately are: D.S. & Durga Pistachio, Juliette Has A Gun Not A Perfume, Matiere Premiere Crystal Saffron, Abel Pink Iris, and Kilian Princess.”

Petra Mocanu, @fragrancedictionary on TikTok

“I love the idea of a signature scent and having something incredibly personal that truly represents you,” says Mocanu, a self-proclaimed perfume addict who reviews and suggests unexpected fragrance combinations to her 150,000 followers on TikTok. “However, I personally could never commit to one perfume because I would feel like I’m missing out on so many other amazing ones. That makes it difficult for me to pick a perfume, but I like to take into consideration three factors whenever I choose what to wear: weather, place, and my overall mood.” Even though she doesn’t have a signature scent, there are some perfumes that Mocanu gravitates towards, such as Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Amyris Femme (“all year round”), Versace Crystal Noir (“I like wearing this when I go out”) and Delina by Parfums de Marly (“beautiful during the spring”).

Francis Kurkdjian, Perfumer and Creative Director at Maison Francis Kurkdjian

“I strongly believe that the [idea] of wearing one single fragrance, or a signature scent, is passé and old fashioned,” says perfumer and creative director, Francis Kurkdjian. “Men and women are complex with multiple facets. You don’t wear the same outfit in the same colour every day, so why would you always wear the same scent?” Having a robust fragrance wardrobe allows the wearer to express different aspects of their personality, explains Kurkdjian. As for his personal collection of scents, he explains, “I no longer wear fragrance outside of what I am currently working on. I need to experience each of them and live with them until I decide they are [complete]. To me ingredients are like words for a writer, or colours for a painter. I consider them tools that you play with to create the fragrance you have in mind. So, I would say my favourite [scents] are raw materials that help me compose the fragrances I dream about. As a perfumer, when it comes to my personal preference, the fragrances I have in mind for the future are always the most intriguing and interesting to me.”

As for his suggestions for us non-perfumers? “Our Aqua collection is the essential piece in one’s wardrobe, similar to a classic white shirt that you can wear on any occasion. It’s fresh, versatile and genderless. Then there are our elegant yet easy-to-wear scents such as Amyris, Pluriel, À la rose or more androgynous pieces like Gentle Fluidity or l’Homme À la rose. We also have more enveloping scents like Grand Soir, our Oud collection or Baccarat Rouge 540 (editor’s note: if you know, you know). The latest scent that debuted last fall, 724, is inspired by the smell and feel of the energy of big cities, transporting you from New York to Paris, Shanghai to Berlin. Each fragrance has its own olfactive signature for every personality and occasion.”

Fragrance enthusiast and collector, @oliviaolfactory on TikTok

“While I understand the power behind having a signature scent to be remembered by, I personally am a fan of having a fragrance rotation to suit different moods, occasions, and seasons,” says fragrance collector and TikTok creator, @oliviaolfactory. “My all-time favourite scent is Thé Noir by Le Labo; it’s a dark, earthy tea and fig fragrance. I’m also fond of the new fragrance Valaya by Parfums de Marly, an elegant yet fresh citrus and peach scent. And for date night I adore Intense Café by Montale, a powerful yet sweet rose, coffee, and vanilla fragrance.”

Say what you will about Gwyneth Paltrow, but no one can deny her ability to look chic in a crisis. The Goop CEO, wellness (?) aficionado and general causer of controversy is currently in court, and, to borrow an ancient proverb: your honour, she’s slaying.

RELATED: Succession Has Mastered the Art of Quiet Luxury

ICYMI: Paltrow is being sued by 76-year-old retiree Terry Sanderson, who accused the actor of skiing into him on a Utah mountain — and then fleeing the scene — in 2016, leaving him with life-altering injuries. Paltrow filed a countersuit against Sanderson, claiming that he in fact skied into her. Sanderson is seeking more than $300,000 USD in damages (an amendment from his initial ask of $3.1 million), while Paltrow is seeking $1 USD in damages, plus attorneys’ fees. With no agreed-upon facts in sight, the case is rich with convoluted chaos. But it has united the world on one crucial front: fashion!

Since the trial began on March 21, Paltrow has been eschewing the celeb courtroom standard of conservative suits. Instead, she’s opted for a minimalist rotation of flowy silhouettes, soft knits and academic-inspired styles that The New York Times approvingly dubbed “courtcore.” Wearing The Row, Prada, Celine and her own Goop clothing line, G. Label (because of course), Paltrow’s neutral, well-tailored wardrobe is void of branding but indeed very expensive. It’s the epitome of quiet luxury, and it’s downright poetic for a case about the inner workings of ski etiquette.

She started off the trial in true rich mom form. On March 21, the 50-year-old donned a billowing ivory turtleneck — which appears to be a nearly $600 USD sweater from G. Label — Celine lace-up boots, brown wide-leg trousers, an army green trench, and now-viral aviator glasses. The next day, she sported an almost identical outfit which the Daily Mail estimates costs $67,220 USD. (Investigative journalism matters!) These forgiving silhouettes and creamy soft fabrics communicate that, despite being in court, Paltrow has all the worries of a Coastal Grandmother. Which is to say, none.

Her blissful, distinctly affluent oeuvre was further reinforced by her legal team’s request to gift the bailiffs some thank-you “treats.” Sadly, this attempt was shot down, so we’re left only to muse about what those Goop-ish gifts could be. (Hopefully not jade eggs.) Moving on!

While modest and effortless, Paltrow’s courtroom outfits never feel too casual for the setting. Case in point: on day three, she hit the scene (courtroom, that is) in a monotone grey slouchy double-breasted suit. Her hair? Messily tucked. Her makeup? Minimal. Her accessories? Stacked gold necklaces and a family-sized bottle of sparkling water. It’s giving “I’m too rich for this.” And, for obvious reasons, that works for her.

Photography by Getty Images

On March 24, Paltrow took the stand in a Wednesday Addams-esque ensemble that had us questioning whether this was fashion week or a courtroom in Park City, Utah. The all-Prada outfit consisted of a dark navy skirt, a figure-hugging cashmere button-down and chunky combat boots. It may have been her best look yet, and that’s a good thing, seeing as her testimony has been meme’d into oblivion. Rest assured, the wackadoodle details of the case brought us firmly back to reality.

The line of questioning by Kristin VanOrman, Sanderson’s lawyer, veers between star-stricken and accusatory. In one moment, she’s marvelling at Paltrow’s height (“just under 5’10”). In another, she’s ruthlessly investigating her ties to Taylor Swift — and whether she’s given “personal, intimate” Christmas gifts to the pop star. Nevertheless, Paltrow’s demeanour is reliably chill. But she’s also not trying to hide the fact that she’s wealthy and famous.

Her team is suggesting that Sanderson’s suit aims to exploit the Oscar winner’s celebrity status. And her demure “old money” ensembles seem to communicate the idea that she doesn’t need to be there, but she’s fighting back because she believes she’s right. (Allegedly.) On March 27, Paltrow wore a similar silhouette and dark colour palette, this time with a white button-up and skirt from The Row paired with yet another G. Label cardigan.

The following day, she wore her trustee Celine boots with Proenza Schouler leather pants and a drapey neck-tie blush pink blouse from G. Label. During the proceedings, she remained attentive while sipping a green juice, because she may be in court, but she shan’t be neglecting her detox.

Photography by Getty Images

Through it all, her gentle outfits stand in stark contrast to the jarring details of the crash, and the satirical drama to come of this case. With vastly different recollections, inexplicable lines of questioning, and downright theatrical courtroom reactions, Paltrow’s clothes stand out as a bastion of satisfying polished style amid the disarray of this case.

Of course, privilege is baked into the entire ordeal. The he-said-she-said between two wealthy, white ski resort frequenters is not exactly the end-all-be-all in the name of justice. But perhaps that’s why this trial — which is expected to run until March 30 — has become so popular. We may never know who hit who on that snowy mountain seven years ago. But from her outfits alone, Gwyneth Paltrow seems confident in her case.

Traditional spa treatments are always a treat, but there’s an emerging genre of spa-like sanctuaries that seek to deliver a deeper experience by putting mental health and well-being at the forefront of their services. Offering up calming hypnosis sessions, endorphin-boosting experiences, and restorative thermal treatments, these tranquil locales are not your average spas.

RELATED: A Guide to the Very Best Toronto Spas

From the west to the east coast, we’ve narrowed our selections down to five must-visit wellness spas across the country. Scroll on to slip into a state of pure bliss.

Four Season’s Toronto’s Wellness & Bio Bar

Located within the five-star spa at the Four Seasons Toronto, the new Wellness & Bio Bar is now open to the public. Short for “biohacking” (the do-it-yourself biology that aims to improve one’s health and quality of life via various techniques and interventions) this bio bar is on a mission to address its guests’ health and wellness needs based on a four-pillar goal model. Whether you’re looking to improve your mental, physical, spiritual, or sexual well-being, rest assured there is a service available here to help you do so. The Four Seasons Toronto is the first luxury hotel in the city to introduce touch therapy — a treatment for those living with cancer where specific skin conditions can be addressed to reduce pain and inflammation while strengthening the lymphatic system. Expecting mothers can benefit from the Mom-to-Be-treatments, which offer a soothing selection of massages designed for those in their second and third trimesters. Or, for an all-around wellness boost that improves sleep and calms the nerves, book a hypnosis appointment with renowned hypnotist Asad Mecci to unlock your full potential.

Mysa Nordic Spa

Out on the east coast, Prince Edward Island’s Mysa Nordic Spa is the first of its kind in the province. Situated on 18 acres of pure peace and serenity, this spa aims to help guests immerse themselves in nature, awaken the senses, and leave the experience feeling stress-free through acts of meditation, essential oil steaming, sauna sessions and more. Although, the must-do here is a run of the “thermal experience”. This spa is inspired by ancient Scandinavian rituals in which participants will alternate between moments of hot, cold, and rest temperatures to release tension and allow the body and mind to feel rested. At Mysa, guests can experience this practice as they cycle between baths and saunas for an invigorating and rejuvenating rush. On the sustainability front, Mysa also relies on a fully renewable woodchip boiler that produces optimum efficiency and emissions to power its spa facilities.

Unbounded Well

A post shared by ronbat (@ronbat)

In Toronto, Unbounded Well is inviting guests to “take the plunge” in the name of somatic wellness. The cold plunge, that is. This is the city’s first outdoor wellness playground with offerings that include private, self-guided, and guided experiences focused on hot and cold therapy, breathing techniques, and movement. Guests can bounce between Scandinavian saunas, a geodesic breathwork studio, and, most notably, the cold plunge wells, to escape the hustle and bustle of the city  — all without needing to leave the downtown core. The Unbounded cold exposure method is well worth the chilling temperatures, with benefits of this treatment ranging from immune system boosts and improved cognitive function to accelerated recovery and somatic healing.

Circle Wellness Spas

Over on Canada’s west coast, Vancouver natives may already be aware of the Circle Wellness Spa in the heart of the city, but there’s a new Granville Island location set to open up shop soon that we’re excited about. This private thermal spa hosts hydrotherapy and heated stone treatments, fusing therapeutic concepts and ancient wellness rituals with top-tier technology from around the globe for the ultimate wellness experience. Inside the spa’s WelPod sauna, feel free to roam around the open-concept room and absorb its relaxing sound, light, and heat elements in this unique, multi-sensory space where guests come to find their flow and unwind the mind and body. Though the flagship location currently has a lengthy waitlist, the opening of a second spa will allow more room for eager visitors.

Förena Cité Thermale

Embark on a “journey to the frontier of water” at this spa nestled just outside of Montreal. Inspired by traditional Icelandic, Russian and German rituals, Förena Cité Thermale offers a culturally diverse array of massage and thermotherapy services designed to leave guests and their bodies feeling renewed. The “Förena experience” hones in on thermal cycles and thermotherapy, which benefits both the mind and body through the release of bodily toxins by sweating, boosts metabolism, and releases stress while inducing a state of deep relaxation through the release of endorphins during the water-based cycles. As for massages, each treatment is specialized and targets the needs of guests from mothers-to-be to those seeking to combat skin fatigue and pent-up stress.
