The internet is rife with reviews touting the best mascaras, but so often the criteria is based upon which one will yield the most dramatic effect. There’s the thick tubes that promise maximum volume, the crescent wands that guarantee extra curl and the spiky bristles that pledge you your longest lashes ever. And while there is a time and place for all of the above, sometimes we’re looking for something a little less OTT and little more, well, everyday.
In a time where false lash strips are becoming normalized for daywear, we fully support the idea of stripping things back. Below we’ve selected our top ten natural-looking mascaras. From Maybelline’s subtle Snapscara to an understated brown option from Burt’s Bees, these products are made for those “no-makeup makeup” days.
This sweatproof formula doesn’t budge and adds a layer of understated drama to the lashes. It’s the ideal companion for day-to-day tasks like grocery shopping or Sunday brunch.
Though this product is technically a primer, you can also use it on its own as a mascara. The mink-brown colour is perfect for a subtle, feathery look. When you want to take things up a notch, just add your favourite mascara on top.
Despite being called ‘The Volume Mascara’ this option by Kevyn Aucoin looks very natural on the eyes. Its thin wand allows for easy application and jojoba oil keeps the lashes soft and shiny.
This is one of Clinique’s best and unsung mascaras. The small brush is easy to use and the formula is buildable and never gets goopy. It also stays put until removed with water.
Another lash primer that works great as an everyday mascara, this one comes in black rather than the usual white, giving the illusion of tinted lashes when applied.
This not only looks natural, but also has an all-natural formula. It’s a great option for anyone with sensitive eyes and the Black Brown shade is ideal for everyday wear.
Blinc was one of the first brands to introduce tube-technology to their mascaras, so you don’t have to worry about any flaking or running. This particular option uses their long-lasting formula to deliver super natural lashes in shades Black and Dark Brown.

This article was originally published in March 2024 and has been updated. There may be a famine of beauty in the world, but Fall 2024 fashion month kept us well-fed. From February to March, the world’s major style capitals served no shortage of sartorial splendour and polarizing cultural antics. The Row went viral for banning the use of phones at its hyper-exclusive show. Coperni debuted a bag made of 99 per cent air . There was even a Kate Moss doppelgänger gallivanting about! But through it all, the lasting excitement came from the looks on the runway — which will set the tone for fall winter 2024 fashion trends. Designers continued to showcase their preference for peplum , sheer and elevated athleisure while bringing fresh pairings into the mix. Meanwhile, cold-weather staples like hats and coats took on different roles with luxe textures and unconventional shapes. From controversial new high-fashion codes to more-is-more accessorizing themes, we’re breaking down the bigg...
