The Beckerman Twins, Canada’s most beloved kooky dressers, love their hometown of Toronto so much they even designed a shirt about it. A ‘70s-inspired love letter to the city depicting the CN Tower, Ontario Place and the good old Don Valley Parkway, it’s only available in limited quantities at the Levi’s store in the Eaton Centre. “The vibe is that Toronto is our home and it’s sunshine,” the twins say. With the spirit of sunshine in mind, we asked the Beckermans to share their favourite places to eat, shop, and relax when it’s summer in the city.
Eat
El Catrin
Cailli: “Their watermelon margaritas are dangerous. I don’t know if I fully recommend that…but they’re really fun.”
The Broadview Hotel
Cailli: “They have an outdoor patio on the rooftop that’s awesome. And they make the best omelette.”
Sam: “They have peanut butter and jam pancakes with icing they put on top. It’s really cracked out. I try to stay away, it’s so good. You really should go.”
Relax
Miraj Hammam Spa by Caudalie Paris
Cailli: “There’s a Hammam steam room, its heavenly. You basically go in there and lie down and you can spray yourself with water. It gets so hot in there, it’s awesome. It’s next level relaxing. It brings everything to the surface.”
Sam: “Brings all the toxins out.”
Cailli: “So it’s great after a night of partying.”
Neighbourhood
Leslieville
Cailli: “It’s kind of like a mini New York. It feels like a mini Lower East Side. You can go out at any time during the day and something is going on. It feels like community, with all those small buildings and everything is happening all the time.”
Sam: “We’ve been outdoor patio hopping in Leslieville. Barrio Cerveceria. Prohibition Gastrohouse. Sweet Jesus for ice cream.”
Shop
Kensington Market
Sam: “Vintage stores are our favourite. We’re always in Kensington Market. We love King of Kensington (35 Kensington Ave.) – it’s kind of underground and hasn’t changed in ages.”
Tribal Rhythm, 248 Queen St. W.
Cailli: “Tribal Rhythm is good on Queen West.”
Eaton Centre
Sam: “We’re always at the Eaton Centre. We’re mallrats.”
