As all beauty junkies will already know, each year Sephora offers a selection of miniature products for Beauty Insiders to enjoy on their birthday. With a new year in full swing, Sephora Canada has announced the lineup of birthday gifts for 2020, which includes a variety of beauty products by Milk Makeup, Sol De Janeiro and Briogeo. Milk Makeup’s gift set includes a hydrating primer, lip and cheek hybrid stick in a dusty rose and their KUSH mascara. The Sol De Janeiro kit features two ultra-hydrating body creams, while Briogeo offers any celebrator in need of hair care, a charcoal coconut shampoo and deep conditioning mask. VIB and Rouge members have the added option of an exclusive, online-only Jo Malone cologne: Wood Sage and Sea Salt.

Beauty brand Kat Von D relaunches as KVD Vegan Beauty, under new ownership

This week it was announced that Kat Von D has stepped down as the owner of her eponymous beauty brand, in a full departure. “This past year has been one of great change for me,” Kat said in a release. “As many of you know, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, launched my vegan shoe line and am now busy prepping to release my long-awaited album in the spring, followed by an international tour! As much as I wish I could balance all of this, on top of continuing my makeup line, it has become clear to me that I just can’t do everything at the maximum capacity.” Kendo, her brand’s partner throughout the past 12 years, has taken full ownership, rebranding and renaming it as KVD Vegan Beauty. Other than the name, not much has changed. The company will continue to offer its current high-performance product lineup, which has been 100 per cent vegan since 2016. David Suliteanu, CEO of Kendo, said: “I want to thank Kat for helping to change the beauty industry with us. The products we created together have stood the test of time and become icons…The same Kendo team that made history with KVD Vegan Beauty is ready to do it again.”

Insta-favourite clean beauty brand, Tower 28, has arrived in Canada

Tower 28 is a clean, vegan, high performance beauty brand built for sensitive skin. And as of this week, not even a year after its launch, Tower 28 has settled into 500 brick-and-mortar Sephora stores (Canadian locations included!). Founder Amy Liu, who has worked as a beauty executive for brands like Smashbox and Kate Somerville, has experienced the trials of eczema for years, which is why she set out to create a brand that is gentle enough for all skin types, and on your wallet. Every product in the brand’s lineup is dermatologist and allergy tested, plus it is also the first and only beauty brand to follow the National Eczema Association’s Ingredient Guidelines. If you aren’t familiar with the brand, you’d be happy to know that it has mastered the art of bold, fun products, which is quite the contrast to most sensitive skin products on the market. Dip your toe into the brand with their dewy highlight balm, colourful lip glosses or soothing facial spray.
