In response to the exceptional measures announced in many countries to manage the Covid-19 public health crisis, Coty is adjusting the production of some of its manufacturing sites to be able to provide free of charge hydro-alcoholic gel to medical and emergency services, where this is needed by local authorities. This week, business giants LVMH and L’Oréal both announced that they are working to create hand sanitizer for the European health authorities as they face a dire shortage in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. Now, another beauty behemoth is jumping on board. Coty Inc. (which owns Calvin Klein, CoverGirl and Kylie Cosmetics) announced that it is transforming its cosmetics manufacturing sites into hand sanitizer production hubs to provide free hydro-alcoholic gel to emergency services. “We stay close to our communities during these exceptionally challenging times,” it wrote on Instagram.

On Thursday, Dr. Eileen de Villa, Toronto’s medical officer for health, urged all non-essential businesses to close. At a press conference on the COVID-19 pandemic, de Villa said, “If we want to be successful in protecting ourselves, our families and our community against this virus, we have to take social distancing even more seriously. This includes non-essential businesses like hair and nail salons and clothing stores. I am encouraging non-essential business that remain open to get behind social distancing. I’m encouraging these businesses to do the right thing.”
