Fashion with Trend

Chances are if you’ve been on the internet in 2024, there’s a name you know well: Alex Cooper. Or maybe you know the podcast host and entrepreneur by her other title, Father Cooper. Arguably best known for her wildly popular podcast “Call Her Daddy” where she chats with stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Hunter Schafer, Hailey Bieber (who spoke about her fave sex position!!), and even the media-shy former Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford, Cooper has been everywhere this year. No podcast feed,  TikTok FYP and fashion week front row is safe from the influence of Alex Cooper.

And it doesn’t seem like she’ll be slowing down anytime soon. On August 20, it was announced that the “Queen of Podcasting” had signed a $125 million deal with SiriusXM. This multi-year partnership is double what Cooper was making with her previous platform, Spotify. Just days after the news broke , Cooper celebrated her 30th birthday (because yes, she’s only 30) and the deal with a lavish bash in the Hamptons. And she deserves to celebrate!

Below we round everything you need to know about Alex Cooper, a.k.a. Father Cooper, *thee* It girl of the moment.

Alex Cooper’s origin story is kind of complicated

If you have an idea who Cooper is, odds are you’re familiar with yet another name, Sofia Franklyn. Franklyn and Cooper were friends and roommates who initially launched “Call Her Daddy” together in 2018. The pod — which at that time featured the two talking about everything from friendship to dating to the very specific details of their sex lives — was eventually acquired by Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Sports.

While things seems to be going great at first, the relationship between the co-hosts fells apart in 2020 when they were looking to sign a new deal with Barstool. In the lead up to their eventual disbandment in May 2020, fans of the podcast noticed things were off, with episode titles seeming to cryptically call for help. In April of the same year, Cooper and Franklyn shared a (now deleted) post to the “Call Her Daddy” Instagram account, saying they couldn’t talk about what was going on behind the scenes, but asked fans to use the hashtag #FreeTheFathers. Eventually, it came out that the pair were referring to — and working through — contract negotiations.

According to reports, Cooper was on-board with the deal, while Franklyn wasn’t. Eventually, Cooper would sign the deal solo, with Franklyn leaving the network and the podcast. But of course, both women have different perspectives on how everything went down. For a while, in the wake of Franklyn leaving, fans were upset with her then-boyfriend, HBO Sport exec Peter Nelson, whom Portnoy said was “shopping around” CHD while the pair were still under contract with Barstool and that Franklyn didn’t accept initial offers from Barstool under advisement from her BF.

In an Instagram story shortly after, Franklyn said that she’d be happy to return to the pod, but was upset with Cooper, who she saw as going behind her back to accept the deal. Whatever really went down BTS, at the end of the day Cooper was in and Franklyn was out.

Her podcast “Call Her Daddy” is super successful

If you haven’t given “Call Her Daddy” a listen, then you’re missing out on some good entertainment. Not only is it hilarious, but it’s also one of the most successful pods, like ever. It’s currently the most-listened to podcast by women on Spotify and is consistently one of the top-performing podcasts across the platform. For guests popping into Cooper’s studio, appearing on the “CHD” podcast is pretty beneficial, with folks like Annita, Madison Beer and John Mayer seeing boosts in their streaming numbers after appearing on the pod.

Cooper’s recent $125 million signing with SiriusXM is just the latest indicator that the podcast — and Cooper — aren’t only beloved by fans, but highly successful — and profitable.

She’s known for landing impressive business deals and partnerships

Part of what makes Cooper such a success in her business savvy and ability to finesse incredible brand deals and partnerships for herself, “CHD” and her recently-launched Unwell Network.

In August 2023, Cooper launched The Unwell Network, a production company catered towards Gen Z, and signed influencers like Alix Earle and Madeline Argy. Since then, Cooper has added other talent to Unwell’s roster, including Too Hot to Handle villain Harry Jowsey and actor Owen Thiele.

In addition to Unwell Network, Cooper has done partnerships and brand deals with beauty brands like Bondi Sands and hosted her own show on Peacock during the Olympic Games in Paris.

Alex Cooper’s social media presence is unmatched

Unlike many millennials her age, Cooper knows how to use social media; and not only that, she’s great at it. The businesswoman is something of a TikTok savant, with a knack for tapping into the zeitgeist and hopping on social media trends in a way that feels authentic to both her and her brand. Seriously, she should be the Millennial Queen of TikTok.

When she’s not promoting her latest pod guest, Cooper is sharing funny food reviews and BTS content with her over two million followers on TikTok.

She just had an extremely chic wedding

Are you even an It girl with influence if you haven’t had an impossibly chic wedding that was covered exclusively by Vogue? In early April of this year, Cooper wed Matt Kaplan in an intimate beach wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico that was dreamy, to say the least.

The fashion lover walked down the aisle in a custom gown from It girl-beloved bridal brand Danielle Frankel.
