Fashion with Trend

Everyone’s trying to curb their shopping habits these days, dialling back on fast fashion purchases and making an effort to shop more sustainably. As Hasan Minhaj pointed out on a recent episode of Patriot Act focusing on the fast fashion industry, buying used clothing instead of new is one surefire way of helping curb carbon emissions. According to a new Oxfam study, “Buying one new white cotton shirt produces the same amount of emissions as driving a car for 35 miles.” With that in mind, read on about two vintage sales happening in Toronto next month, where you can score high-end designer goods without any of the guilt.

Koffler Couture
In support of the Koffler Centre for the Arts, one of Toronto’s biggest designer and vintage sales is returning for its sixth year. Some of the luxury brands whose clothing and accessories will be on offer at discounted prices include Burberry, Chanel, Etro, Gucci, Marni, Mackage, Oscar de la Renta, Victoria Beckham and Miu Miu. Early access to the event, from 6 to 9pm on December 7, costs $75 and includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and live DJ entertainment. The sale opens to the public the next day, December 8, from 11am to 4pm and allows attendees to pay what they can at the door. The sale concludes with a special Mark-Down Monday (December 9), with discounts on all remaining merchandise.

The event runs from December 7 to 9 at Artscape Youngplace at 180 Shaw Street.

Archival Toronto
Archival Toronto, a fashion events start-up, is bringing back their annual holiday shopping event. Titled White Saturday, the one-day sale will feature a selection of archival designer pieces from brands like Comme des Garcons, Prada, Dior, Maison Margiela, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yohji Yamamoto and more, with everything under $200. “We’re dedicated to helping promote sustainable shopping habits in Toronto,” says Archival Toronto co-founder Carl Chiang. “We’ve curated a brand new selection of affordable pieces that will be exclusive to White Saturday and worked tirelessly to make sure that there’s a deal for everyone!” Last year’s sale sold out in just a matter of hours so aim to show up early if you want to leave with some goodies in tow.

The sale is on December 14 from 10am to 6pm at The Remote Gallery on 568 Richmond Street West.
