Fashion with Trend

The Karl Lagerfeld brand announced a ban on fur

This week, the Karl Lagerfeld brand announced that it will no longer use fur in its collections moving forward. In fact, AM Retail and G-III Apparel Group – the operators of Lagerfeld stores and its parent company respectively – will ban fur across the board. This means other brands like Calvin Klein Performance and HG Bass & Co will also be fur-free moving forward. The news was announced by PETA who said, “These fur bans are proof that the fashion industry is changing to meet the rising demand for luxury animal-friendly alternatives.”

Contemporary brand COS opened the doors to its new Vancouver location this week, marking the brand’s second outpost in the city and the biggest storefront in Canada. Spanning more than 500 square metres and two floors, the store (which is on Robson Street) is home to the brand’s full collection across women’s, men’s and kid’s, as well as its new holiday collection. Marie Honda, the managing director of COS, said in a release that the brand is “delighted to be able to offer our full collection to Vancouverites for the first time,” particularly following “how enthusiastically the city embraced our first location.”

Further indicating that 2020 is going to fashion’s most woke year yet, German brand MCM announced this week that it will launch its first underwear and loungewear collections, the latter of which will be gender-neutral. According to WWD, the collections will also mark the brand’s first foray into ethical and eco-friendly pieces. There will be 13 pieces on offer in total, including boxers, leggings and silk robes. The boxers are particularly noteworthy as they’re made from Demeter-certified biodynamic Egyptian Ginza cotton.

Kim Kardashian West launched *more* SKIMS collections

At this point we’re 99.9 per cent positive that Kim Kardashian West never sleeps.  Case in point: the reality TV star-turned-entrepreneur released not one, but two new collections for her intimates brand SKIMS this week. The first was the Cozy collection, followed by the Sleep collection. The latter marked the brand’s first sleepwear collection. To coincide with both launches, Kim released a series of videos on the brand’s Instagram page where women (decked out in the new pieces) shared their own personal stories of tragedy and triumph. The text in the posts read, “Everyone has a story to tell. This holiday season, we’re giving over our platform to women whose stories inspire us and supporting the causes that inspire them.” Each woman featured in the campaign had a donation made to the charity of their choice in their name.
